From its inception in 1977 as a manufacturer of physical therapy devices, Tokyo Iken Co., Ltd. has been a pioneer of new ideas and stands proudly as one of the first companies to have recognized the true therapeutic potential of light.
Our efforts in this field took first form in the Super Lizer, which, from the shipment of our first units in 1989, secured an outstanding reputation in physical therapy departments the world over as the first effective physical therapy device based on light rays. Therapists have consistently given the Super Lizer high marks for its excellent performance as well as its suitability for treating a broad range of indications. We have shipped more than 20,000 units since that time, and the device is currently used in countless hospitals, both in Japan and throughout the world.
The concept underlying the development of the Super Lizer was to harness the power of light in order to contribute to medical treatment modes that ensure patient comfort.
As part of our mission to give concrete form to this concept, we’ve continued to apply the latest technologies to improve the Super Lizer. These efforts have led to today’s Super Lizer PX, which is capable of up to 10 watts of pulse radiation output.
The Super Lizer PX is used across a wide range of fields, including pain relief clinics and other rehabilitation facilities, as well as dermatology, surgery, ophthalmology, obstetrics and gynecology, sports medicine, oriental medicine, and veterinary medicine.
There is no doubt that pain management will assume increasing importance in medical practice the world over. Our goal is to achieve treatments that ensure patient comfort by developing ever better devices, thereby fulfilling our mission as a leading developer and manufacturer in the field of optical research. We will continue to assume the challenge posed by new possibilities, meanwhile cultivating strong links to the medical community so that we can take full advantage of the knowledge and technological abilities accumulated to date.
Be sure to keep an eye on Tokyo Iken’s achievements, as we are always working on the very frontier of light.
In order to demonstrate in the development stage that the Super Lizer improved blood circulation, Tokyo Iken asked university hospitals to gather clinical data. During this process, we determined that irradiating the stellate ganglion was highly effective not just for physical therapy but for the physical treatment of pain.
While targeting stellate ganglion blocks is a highly effective treatment approach, it also has a specific drawback: namely, this approach is not suitable for all healthcare workers, as needles must be inserted accurately into treatment areas at angles and depths specific to the treatment area. In addition, patients undergoing such treatment may be unable to tolerate repeated needle insertion or repeated treatment.
The Super Lizer resolves these drawbacks. It can be easily used free of pain or invasive medical treatment, enabling use by all healthcare workers and for all patients, including small children. Many anesthesiologists now consider the Super Lizer an essential mode of treatment.
Treating pain is also an integral part of veterinary medicine for subjects ranging from small animals, such as dogs and cats, to larger animals, such as horses. Building on the expertise accumulated with our preceding Super Lizer products, Tokyo Iken contributes to veterinary treatment by providing a compact Super Lizer designed especially for use with animals.
These efforts include a new method for treating animal tumors that combines drug therapy and the Super Lizer. Developed with university cooperation and currently in use at more than 100 facilities in Japan, this method has demonstrated strong results even in cases that proved resistant to other methods.
